Best dentist in Fez: how to choose

There is no single "best dentist" for everyone: there is the right dentist for you, your treatment and your situation. Here are the concrete criteria that separate one practice in Fez from another, and what to check before committing to treatment.

Written by Dr. Asmae Hammadi, dental surgeon · Updated October 4, 2026

1. A qualified dental surgeon registered with the Order

In Morocco, only a qualified dental surgeon registered with the National Council of the Order of Dentists may diagnose, prescribe and treat. The diploma is usually displayed in the practice: feel free to ask where the dentist trained and how long they have practised.

Be wary of "whitening" or "Hollywood smile" offers carried out outside a dental practice: these are medical procedures.

2. Hygiene and sterilisation

This is the most important criterion, and the least visible. A serious practice sterilises instruments after every patient (autoclave), uses single-use items wherever possible and changes gloves and covers at every appointment. Simply ask how instruments are sterilised: the answer should be clear and immediate.

3. An explained diagnosis and a written quote

A good dentist shows you what they see (X-ray, photo, mirror), explains the options with their pros and cons, then gives you a written treatment plan and quote before any significant treatment.

You should be able to think it over, compare or get a second opinion without pressure. A verbal, vague quote, or one you must sign immediately, is a bad sign.

4. Google reviews: read the content, not just the score

A 4.8 rating from 10 reviews says less than 4.6 from 150. Read what patients actually describe: pain during treatment, punctuality, explanations, aftercare. Also look at how the practice responds to negative reviews.

Reviews that are all identical, very short or posted on the same day call for caution.

5. Pain and anxiety management

Fear of the dentist is common. Ask how treatment is done: local anaesthetic whenever useful, numbing gel before the injection, the option to pause. A dentist who explains each step makes treatment much easier.

6. Emergencies and accessibility

Toothache or a broken tooth can't wait. Check that the practice answers the phone or WhatsApp and keeps same-day slots for emergencies. Location matters too: a central practice makes follow-up visits (implants, orthodontics) easier.

7. Warning signs

Prices far below the market with no explanation, pressure to accept major treatment at the first visit, no X-ray before an implant, or refusal to provide a written quote. In those cases, get a second opinion.

Questions to ask at your first appointment

What are the options for my case, and what happens if I do nothing? How many visits, over how long? What does the quote include (X-rays, temporaries, check-ups)? What happens if there's a problem after treatment? How much can I claim back from my insurance?

At Dr Asmae Hammadi's practice

The practice is at Espace Rihab (building D, 4th floor), Avenue Allal Ben Abdellah, in central Fez, opposite Hotel Volubilis. Every treatment starts with an examination and an explanation, and you receive a written quote before anything begins.

Instruments are sterilised after every patient, emergencies are seen the same day during opening hours, and you can read patient reviews on the practice's Google profile.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a dentist in Fez is trustworthy?

Check their qualifications and registration with the Order, how clearly they explain, whether they give a written quote, and what Google reviews actually say (not just the score).

Should I choose the cheapest dentist?

Not necessarily. Compare detailed quotes for the same treatment: materials, number of visits, X-rays and follow-up included. A very low price with no explanation is a warning sign.

Can I ask for a second opinion?

Yes, it's your right, especially before major treatment such as implants or orthodontics. A good dentist won't take offence.
