Before whitening
We always start with an examination and a clean: many "yellow" teeth are actually covered in tartar or tea and coffee stains that come off with a simple polish.
Cavities and irritated gums must be treated first. Note that crowns and fillings do not whiten. If they are visible, they may need redoing afterwards to match the new shade.
Two methods
In the chair: the gel is applied to the teeth while the gums are protected. Allow about an hour. The result is visible straight away.
At home: I make custom trays that you wear with a prescribed gel for a few hours a day or overnight for 2 to 3 weeks. The result is more gradual and often more stable. The two methods can be combined.
After whitening
Temporary sensitivity to cold is common for a few days. For the first 48 hours, avoid tea, coffee, coloured soft drinks, tomato sauce and smoking.
Results usually last one to three years depending on your habits. Keep your trays for a short top-up session.
Frequently asked questions
Does whitening damage teeth?
Not when done with properly dosed dental products under a dentist's supervision. The risks come mostly from unsupervised products.
Can I whiten during pregnancy?
No, it is better to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Whitening is also not recommended under 18.
